George Herbert Walker Bush (also known as George Bush Sr.) was the 41st president of the United States from 1989-1993. He was vice president for Ronald Reagan who was popular at the time. Because of Reagan's popularity, Bush was elected in the 1988 election. Bush's big promise was this, in his own words: "Read my lips: No new taxes". (Quote from this source for legal reasons) However, those words would come back to bite him as Bush would have to compromise with Congress which made him raise taxes. This and a small recession in the early 1990s that he didn't really cause lead to him losing the 1992 election. Bush was the second of two presidents (the first being John Adams to be president and have a son be president (Bush's son being George W. Bush.
Bush was born on June 12, 1924 in Milton, Massachusetts.
Bush died in Houston, Texas on November 30, 2018. He is the latest president to die.
