Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th president from 1969-1974. He was previously Dwight Eisenhower's vice president and had run for president in the 1960 election but lost to John F. Kennedy. Nixon was originally popular, dominating in both the 1968 election and 1972 election. However, in 1973, it was found that Nixon's administration had tried to commit a scandal to ensure they would win the 1972 election. Because of overwhelming pressure and a likely future impeachment, Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974. However, in a controversial move, Nixon's vice president and presidential successor Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon of all crimes.
Nixon was born on January 9, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California.
Nixon died on April 22, 1994 in New York City.
