Ronald Wilson Reagan was the 40th president of the United States from 1981 - 1989. Reagan had ran for president in 1976, but was barely defeated by Gerald Ford for the Republican nomination. Reagan had an interesting career before being president, as he was an actor, unlike other presidents before him. He was also a WW2 veteran. Reagan had defeated Jimmy Carter in a landslide in the 1980 election. Reagan was able to stop the stagflation and other economic problems that he inherited, but it took a while. However, when he left office, the economy was improving and the end of the Cold War was coming. At the time, Reagan was one of the most popular presidents of all time, destroying in the 1984 election, which was the biggest electoral landslide (excluding the unopposed elections of 1788-1789, 1792 and 1820). Today, he is known as an above-average president, though there are some that say he made bad effects in the long term. His administration did have some sketchy things, most notably the Iran-Contra Affair.

Birth

Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois.

Death

Reagan died on June 5, 2004 in Los Angeles, California.
