Miscellaneous Items in High Demand, PPOC, Library of Congress, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

James Monroe was the fifth president of the United States from 1817-1825. He was the only president besides George Washington to run unopposed in an election. Despite the Panic of 1819, Monroe had a very successful presidency, a lot of it due to the Era of Good Feelings.

Birth

Monroe was born in a wooded area in Westmoreland County, Virginia. That area is now just a mile away from a town named Monroe Hall, named after him.

Death

On July 4, 1831, Monroe became the third president to die on Independence Day. He passed away at his daughter's house in New York City.
